Man of Steel
I don't want to throw out spoilers for those who haven't seen it but seriously its a worthwhile movie to see. The backstory for the Kryptonians was really well played out, some gaps but nothing that can't be forgiven. The moral dilemma of this new form of Superman is also interesting. The Superman films up to this point have painted a character that always knew what he was and what he was up against and what was at stake. For the first time we have a Superman who quite frankly just doesn't know anything about what he's getting into. Seeing him have to deal with all the problems that were present here was as interesting as anything else in the film.
Much like SM-II, the actors played out their roles with impressive detail. Superman is a great title for this because if you remove the super, the super powers, what you are faced with is a man who is trapped in a life/battle of conscience and will. Not because he wanted to be there, to make a difference. But because he was simply thrown in it, no choice and no chance to make his own dreams.
Also, the line of "How do we know you won't go against America's interests?" "General, I grew up in Kansas, how much more American can I be?" This is a pinpoint for the movies, he's not THE SUPERMAN! He's, kansas-man who has super in him and is constantly suffering for it. How much can he expect of himself and how much do we have a right to expect from him?
I'm giving this a 9/10. The story has gaps and you can finecomb it a fair bit, however the plot is solid and its a work of fiction so you're going to have to accept a good bit of SoD.

Re: Man of Steel
I agree on nearly all points, there, and add that the acting and characterizations were fantastic. A few nits here and there, but an engaging story, and a great setup for the next one, where they should have even more room for character development. 7.5/10 from me.
